The 95-Club has been shut down until further notice. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Hello!
I hope you are doing well and staying cool in this hot weather! I wanted to be fully transparent and let everyone know what has been happening over the past few months, some challenges facing the club and its structure, and what I plan to do with the club in the future. I think it’s really important for leaders, CEOs, and company/club owners and/or presidents to be honest with the people who support them, participate in their work, and contribute ideas. With that being said, this newsletter is not to spread gossip, give misinformation, or cause concern for participants and those who have been following us throughout this process.
When I created The 95-Club, I had big ideas for what I wanted it to look like in the future. I still hold the original mission of the club dear to my heart, and maybe later on it will be more successful. But I made a mistake by recruiting a close friend of mine to contribute ideas to the club, help set dates, and decide what we will be doing at pop-up events. She basically became the co-founder of the club that was completely my idea, but contributing virtually nothing. I would always be asking for her input, what she thought about my ideas, asking her to come up with ideas, and making sure HER schedule aligned with the pop-up dates. I had asked her to request a day off months in advance, but she always let me know at the last minute they just ‘decided’ not to give her the requested day off. She was the sole reason I was constantly canceling dates and rescheduling the pop-ups throughout this past summer. It was extremely unfortunate, because each time we set a date, I would make hand-made flyers and put them up around different neighborhoods. It was very time consuming and frustrating that all my hard work was being thrown out just because one person couldn’t contribute on the day of the pop-up. When we became roommates our friendship went to shambles. She completely disrespected me over a simple mistake that I had made, which I had apologized for. When I expressed to her that I do not appreciate being disrespected, she played the victim card and gave me a half-assed apology. When I wasn’t having it, she said; “I’m just done over explaining myself if we can’t work past this we’re just roommates and you can have fun doing your club and pop up because I’m just a prop for it anyways with no say in that either”. Now why on Earth would she assume I am using her as a prop for the club I created? I literally have no idea. This came as a complete shock to me! It literally came out of nowhere, and I find it quite ridiculous. I wasn’t about to cancel a pop-up for a fourth time, so I had invited other friends and family to participate and it was great!
I tried not to let my personal life and interpersonal dramas get in the way of something I am passionate about, but I cannot put up with the childish, immature attitude that comes with recruiting a close friend for a project of this nature. I want to create something completely separate from her. Even though she did not create this club, she has been associated with it and had a giant influence on what it was all about.
With that being said, I am not entirely sure what I want to do with The 95-Club. I still love the concept, but with everything going on in my personal life, work, and finishing up college, it has been too much of a burden to continue. This is a very tough decision because I am very proud of this concept. I talked about this with Nestor, another member of The 95-Club, and he agreed that it’s a good idea to take a break from this and come back to it later. After that discussion, I thought about it more, and I am leaning more towards scrapping The 95-Club as a community-based art club and turning it into a community outreach club. Nothing is set in stone, and we are still in the brain-storming process, but I am thinking of focusing on giving food to houseless individuals, providing information for local community gardens and free food/other necessities, as well as a place to share important information about things going on in Sacramento. I still want to create a community-based art club, but that is to come in the next few months.
I hope this letter clears up any confusion or questions you may have been having about the club, pop-ups, and/or what has been going on internally. I want to thank you for following me through this journey and being open to meeting local artists.
Take Care,
Mia From The 95-Club

Special Interest- The Central Valley Flood Protection Board Passed Destructive “Flood Protection” Project
A few years ago, the Army Corps of Engineers had proposed a project that would help protect citizens from flooding events and prevent erosion from occurring along the American River in Sacramento. Their idea is to completely devastate the natural environment around the American River, cutting down over 700 trees and 35 heritage Oak trees, to bring in giant loads of rock into the river. They don’t even need to cut the trees down for their project, they just want to cut the trees down because they need to be able to bring the heavy construction equipment down to the river banks.
American River Trees, an organization that fights to protect the American River’s natural habitat, has been fighting against this project being passed since it was introduced during COVID. They have caught numerous lies, inconsistent information, and gibberish within the 950+ page document describing the project. One of the lies stating that there are only 3 heritage Oak trees along this stretch of the American River. But when they had been asked to give the definition of a heritage Oak tree, they did not know the difference between diameter, circumference, and girth. Therefore, not providing accurate data because they only marked very large trees as heritage oaks. Then, when this point was brought up numerous times before the Central Valley Flood Protection board, they claimed that there are numerous different definitions of what a heritage Oak tree is.
There is so much that goes into this. I could write a whole essay on the turn of events that has led the Central Valley Flood Protection board to vote yes on this project. But, for now I just want everyone that reads the newsletter to be aware of it.

We hope you all are able to attend the Pop-Up and look forward to seeing you there!

What We’ve Been Up To:
As you may have known by now, Tessa and I (Mia) had to cancel our Pop-Ups we scheduled for June 2025 due to unprecedented events. We finally found a place and have been working on unpacking and setting it up. It’s A LOT of work! Everything we have run into has been completely new to me as this is my very first time renting, so the process has been a bit slow. But we are very grateful to have been able to find a place in such short notice and with everything going on right now, politically.
With that being said, we began discussing scheduling our very first Pop-Up event. We have been in correspondence with various artists and want to make sure we schedule a date that works for EVERYONE. Due to this scheduling goal, we have decided that we will spend the rest of July prepping for the Pop-Up and aim to hold the event within the first two weeks of August. Our artists come from all different walks of life, so we understand how attending the Pop-Up in August could be an issue that leads to many people not attending.
We have also been in correspondence with the librarian at the North Highlands-Antelope Library to help spread the word about our event and they have been so kind! They offered to let us use one of their community rooms for our Pop-Ups, which I think would be an amazing idea! The community room is definitely something we are considering for winter Pop-Ups, that way our attendees and artists are not freezing outside.
We understand how inconvenient it is for events to be rescheduled and canceled, especially when it’s something you’ve been looking forward to. So we will make sure that our next drop date works for everyone and WILL NOT be rescheduled or canceled. We appreciate your understanding and can’t wait to see you in August. Keep an eye out for the date drop within the next week!
Refining Our Ideas:
To make our Pop-Up more accessible to artists we believe it would be better to only schedule one Pop-Up date per month. I would still prefer to hold 2 Pop-Ups per month so we are open to experimenting with the structure of our club.
We are open to any and all ideas! Our website also needs to be updated so please feel free to reach out and email us if you have any questions or comments!

Special Interest - Responsible Textile Recovery Act of 2024:
The California Senate has now extended the responsibilities of producers for apparel and textiles! This is the first program directed at apparel and textiles in the United States! Isn’t that exciting? This act states that it is now the producer’s responsibility to offer recycling programs for used textiles and offer accessible drop off stations to collect post-consumer covered apparel and textile products.
This is a big win for the environment because over 11.3 million tons of textile waste is dropped at landfills each year in the United States. Yes, thrift stores help a lot with reducing the number of waste textiles, but they also bring clothes that have been sitting there for a long time to landfills. Most of these textiles ARE recyclable and reusable. I see this as a great step towards producing less waste and being more creative with the way we reuse materials. I have always found it odd that big companies/corporations produce so much waste but leave it to the consumer to be responsible for the clean up.

Final Thoughts:
With everything going on in our country right now, and even our state, it’s been difficult for myself and many of my loved ones to find peace or even do the things we enjoy doing. There is power in numbers, and I just know that when we all find a community that we feel safe in, we can overcome this very dark time period.
Please reach out to your loved ones, especially if they have been directly affected by the Trump administration. If you are personally affected and just want someone to talk to or want to be directed to resources, please reach out to us!

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!!
Due to a series of unfortunate events, Tessa and I have been looking for places to move for the past couple weeks. We were planning on finding something much sooner, that way we could still have the Pop-Ups as scheduled. But, since we still have not moved into a place and many people have told us they are unable to make it to both days, we have decided it would be best to cancel and reschedule the Pop-Up dates. We want to have our full focus on making the Pop-Ups fun for everyone and fit into all participants’ schedules. We plan to reschedule the Pop-Up for July, giving everyone a little bit more time to prepare and invite friends! Another reason we are canceling the Pop-Up for June is that a lot has been happening politically, so we think it is very important to stand with PRIDE especially during PRIDE month. If you all are interested, we will be helping clean up after the parade on June 15th with Sacramento Valley Sparks. We will also be at the PRIDE parade in San Francisco on June 28th.
We are very sorry for the inconvenience, but we hope to see you all in July!

What We’ve Been Up To:
Tessa and I have been working on contacting libraries in our area, letting them know about our Pop-Ups, and inviting them to participate. We also started refining our vision for our June Pop-Ups by adjusting our dates and times, and deciding what booths we will be offering.
Refining Our Ideas:
I (Mia) have been dealing with some personal issues, so we decided to leave the 95660 area out this June. We also changed the dates and times of our previously decided Pop-Ups. The updated times and dates are as followed:
June 14th: Oki Park @4pm-7pm ~ 2715 Wissemann Dr, Sacramento, CA 95826
June 15th: Firestone Park @4pm-7pm ~ 5415 Poker Ln, Antelope, CA 95843
For the next couple weeks, we will be working on creating more flyers for the Pop-Up events and spreading the word. We will also be contacting all the artists and volunteers that have signed up to participate in the events, letting them know about all the logistics and providing an opportunity to get any/all questions answered.

What We’ve Been Up To:
Tessa and I (Mia) have been hand-making “artists/musicians wanted” flyers and putting them up around our neighborhoods. We also got together with one of our friends, and fellow club member, Lyrix to draw pictures on index cards, cover them in moj poj, and put them up around California State University, Sacramento. We have been trying to steer clear from making an Instagram account due to their new AI policies, so we have also been spreading the word about the club and the Pop-Up events by word of mouth to friends and peers. TikTok has also been very helpful with spreading the word, but we can’t rely on it forever. A few adjustments have been made to the website here and there, but overall we have been mainly focusing on setting Pop-Up dates and refining our ideas.
Refining Our Ideas:
Like I mentioned on the website, I had a lot of ideas for how the community could get together. This club is basically an accumulation of all my ideas put into one place. But, I can’t help but ask if it’s possible sometimes. So, depending on how things go with these first few Pop-Up events, I might be changing the dynamic of how they play out. Instead of having many different stations for community members to participate in like how a carnival would, I might just have specific activities for each event. For example, one Pop-Up event might be specifically for artists to have a mini-concert in the park to showcase their art while one Pop-Up event could be specifically for sports games for different age groups. It all depends on how things go, how many people show up, how many people volunteer, and if neighbors complain about the amount of people showing up to the park.

Special Interest - Time Banks:
According to timebanks.org, time banks track the hours members earn by helping others and the hours they spend receiving help. All hours are valued equally, whether for professional services or simple neighborly assistance. For every hour of help given, a member earns one “time dollar” or “time credit”, which the recipient can repay by helping someone else.
I think times banks are a good form of resistance when you feel like you can’t resist in other ways in your life. My friends and I have tried finding time banks in our communities, but the closest one is in Oakland. Maybe this short snippet of information about time banks will spark inspiration in you to start one in your community!
Member Spotlight:
Tessa Jamison
Tessa has been a good friend of mine since middle school. We met each other in seventh grade when we were attending Sylvan Middle School and she has always been one of my closest friends. We remained friends throughout high school, but ended up parting ways around the time COVID-19 had broken out. A few months ago, we rekindled our friendship and have been working on projects and creating art together non-stop ever since. When I had this idea for the 95-Club, she was immediately on board and wanted to help with whatever she possibly could. She is also a very talented artist and will be showcasing some of her art at our Pop-Up events!
Final Thoughts:
We have not yet finalized the Pop-Up dates. Please stay tuned and check the website because date drops are coming very soon!! Thank you so much for your interest in local artists and supporting your community. Your passion is greatly appreciated and valued by everyone around you!
I'm in the very beginning stages of creating The 95-Club. I came up with the idea a few weeks ago, started telling my friends a few days ago, and today I decided to start writing all my ideas down. I felt inspired and was able to get a lot accomplished today! I started working on the club's website and brain-storming the technological aspects of our Pop-Up events.
The only NEWS I have for you today is that: the website is still under construction; the technicalities of the club and Pop-Up events are still up for discussion, nothing is set in stone; and this is something that is definitely happening! So, I'll be busy the next few weeks working on flyers, getting the word out, fund-raising, and scouting volunteers and artists.
This newsletter section is where you can find any recent updates. I plan to update this section whenever I make significant changes to the website, when Pop-Up events are occurring, and when important anouncements are to be made. Whenever I update the website, there will be an email sent out to whoever signed up for our newsletter, volunteers, and featured artists.
